Hello and thank you for considering being part of my Pinrail Portraits series!
I'm Sean Gallagher, I split my time between working as a Unit Stills photographer for Film and TV as well as working on the lighting crew at NY City Center Theater. While I'm here, I've been trying to photograph as many performers and crew on the pinrail as I can manage to squeeze in on tech, rehearsal and performance days. I'm the third generation of my family to be working in show business, and I think because of that I've always been just as interested in what's happening backstage as on stage. Additionally, for the crew, most of us have very few pictures of us working, especially composed shots done with intention. In the last six months, I've photographed all sorts of performers, coaches, crew, retirees, and hopefully soon...you!
This is admittedly an unusual spot, but it's also someplace most people will never see, so it makes for an interesting space.
These are our shots, primarily for ourselves and our friends, and then for a wider audience after. Because of that, there are very few constraints:
For Talent: you can wear whatever you like (costume/warmup clothes, either way) makeup or none is fine. Obviously in-costume would look amazing but I’m not sure what your constraints are with wardrobe. I’m looking for a few with big, dramatic posing, whatever you’re comfortable with and warmed up for. We’ll also do a couple straight waist-up portraits, some serious and some smiling. They can be however you like…super serious, powerful, in character, silly. Sky’s the limit.
For Crew: we're at work, and it should look it! I want to show everyone the people who make the shows that they see everyday.
The entire thing takes 5-10 minutes. The pinrail is accessible by elevator, and is safe. I can come in early, stay late, shoot between shows or on coffee breaks…whatever works. This will be the easiest photo shoot you’ll ever be a part of!
